Summary:
This webinar provided an introduction to the HSE- Medicines Management Programme (MMP), outlining initiatives including preferred drugs and devices, prescribing and cost guidance, best-value medicines and Health Technology Management. The MMP’s role in guiding and enhancing safe, effective and cost-effective prescribing was outlined. An overview of Health Technology Management as it relates to glucose monitoring devices was provided including initiatives which have been undertaken for blood glucose test strips (BGTS) and those relating to continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) systems. The presenters also provided an overview of medicines expenditure, including total annual expenditure associated with glucose monitoring and CGM sensors and cost savings achieved through the use of preferred product lists for glucose monitoring products, continuous glucose monitoring systems and reimbursement protocols, while taking individual patient care needs into account.
