As the CPD model for pharmacists in Ireland is self-directed, pharmacists are free to undertake appropriate learning relevant to their own practice; this includes suitable courses and events delivered by providers other than the Irish Institute of Pharmacy (IIOP). Nonetheless the IIOP is delighted to continue their support for Irish Pharmacists through the provision of free events and courses which can contribute to pharmacists’ Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

For 2016 the IIOP will use a mix of familiar and innovative platforms to deliver opportunities for the Irish Pharmacist to engage with their CPD.

ePortfolio information events

In 2014 Peer Support Sessions focused on the foundations of the new CPD system for Pharmacists in Ireland. This was followed in 2015 by a series of information sessions held throughout the country and focused on the roll out of the ePortfolio. For 2016 the IIOP has organised a series of hour-long information webinars hosted by peer support pharmacists specifically focussed on the key requirements of the eportfolio review, so that you know exactly what to expect at each point in the process

FORMAL CPD COURSES

The Institute will continue to supply and facilitate accredited CPD programmes across a variety of clinical areas: Cardiovascular disease; Diabetes; Anticoagulation; as well as the non-clinical: Superintendent Pharmacist Training programme and Personal Development programme. Early 2015 will also see the roll out of Antibiotic Stewardship and Medication Management in Older Persons.

Future courses being developed for 2015 include First Aid for Mental Health, Dispensing High Risk Medications and Managing Quality in Pharmacy Practice to name but a few. Programmes will use a variety of delivery formats from eLearning to face-to-face live sessions for additional learning and support.

The Institute will also be involved in the accreditation process of this year’s Influenza Training Programmes and the delivery of the Refresher Level 2 Programme.

Visit the IIOP website regularly as all courses will be made available under the Courses and Events section of the website as they become available for booking. Updates on the IIOP courses and events calendar will also be communicated via our Linkedin, Twitter and Facebook accounts.

other providers

Information on courses and events from some other providers can be found in the News and Events section of the IIOP website. Please note this list is not exhaustive; courses and events included on this list have not been quality assured by the IIOP and so pharmacists should determine for themselves if participation in these course and events is appropriate for their own CPD.
