Throughout July and August, the Irish Institute of Pharmacy (IIOP) held a Photo Competition entitled ‘ Prescription for a Healthy Ireland ’; entrants were asked to consider how pharmacy contributes to a healthier Ireland.
Entries were received from all sectors of pharmacy, with many also coming from members of the public, whose lives had been directly positively impacted by the work undertaken by pharmacists.
The competition was judged by Mr. Jack Daly, from the IIOP Steering Group and Mr. Hu O’Reilly, a Dublin-based photographer, whose work includes wedding, commercial and photo-documentary photography.
The top 23 entries were selected to be displayed at a public Photo Exhibition in RCSI on Wednesday 23rd September. This exhibition coincided with the launch of the IIOP Strategy 2015-2018 at the first IIOP Seminar and complemented the day's theme of ‘Supporting the Pharmacy Journey’ by showcasing a breadth of pharmacists’ contributions to the Irish Healthcare system.
Mr. Billy Cahill’s entry ‘Pharmacy: Everything from A-Z’ was chosen as the winning entry, with the judges commenting that it was an “excellent photograph demonstrating creativity, originality and relevance to the theme”.
Billy was presented with his prize, of an iPad Air, by the Executive Director of the IIOP, Dr. Catriona Bradley, at the Public Exhibition.
Second Place was awarded to Trinity College Dublin Pharmacy Student Mr. Neil Boles for his entry ‘Expanding Services on your doorstep’ and third place was awarded to Ms. Claire Lynch for her photograph ‘Modern Ireland’.
All photos which were displayed at the Exhibition can be viewed on the IIOP Facebook Page.
