The AMRIC (Antimicrobial Resistance and Infection Control) team within the Health Service Executive (HSE), in collaboration with the School of Pharmacy at University College Cork (UCC), is conducting an anonymised online survey for community pharmacists.

About the Survey
This survey aims to explore community pharmacists’ knowledge, views, and experiences relating to:

  • Antimicrobial stewardship
  • Antimicrobial prescribing
  • Infection management
  • Identify how community pharmacists can be better supported in their antimicrobial stewardship role
  • Inform the ongoing development of education, professional practice, and policy in this area

Why It Matters
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) represents a major global public health challenge:

  • In 2021, AMR was associated with an estimated 1.14 million deaths worldwide
  • Increasing numbers of patients are affected by drug-resistant infections

Antimicrobial stewardship focuses on ensuring the most effective use of antimicrobials while minimising harm caused by inappropriate use.
As healthcare professionals—and as patients ourselves—it is essential that antibiotics remain effective to ensure safe treatment for infections, as well as for procedures such as surgery and chemotherapy.
