Pharmacist Registration

Pharmacist Registration

Pharmacists must be registered with the PSI if they wish to practice in Ireland.

First time registration

Anyone wishing to practice as a pharmacist in Ireland must register with the PSI. There are different routes of registration with the PSI depending on where the pharmacy qualification has been awarded:

  • Qualification obtained in Ireland
  • Qualification obtained in the EU
  • Qualification obtained outside the EU

The PSI website has information about each route, including the supporting documents needed to apply and the requirements you must meet, at the following link: First Time Registration. Language competence requirements apply to all qualified pharmacists who have completed their training outside of Ireland and who are seeking first time registration with the PSI.

Continued registration

Pharmacists wishing to remain on the register to practice in Ireland must apply on an annual basis for continued registration, using the PSI online registration portal, and pay an annual fee. Further information about continued registration can be found on the PSI website here: Continued Registration.

This includes guidance on:

  • How to submit an application
  • Continued Registration Timelines
  • Certificate of Registration
  • Continued Registration Fee
  • Required Information for Continued Registration Application

Cancelling your registration

If you no longer wish to be registered with the PSI, or are considering a career break, or moving abroad or retiring, you can voluntarily cancel your registration on the PSI online registration portal. If you decide to let your registration “expire” and choose not to pay your continued registration fee, you will be involuntarily removed from the register and subject to a higher fee if/when you decide to rejoin the register. Further information can be found on the PSI website at the following link: Cancelling your Registration.
