Summary:
This webinar provided an introduction to foundational concepts in transgender health, including crucial distinctions between sex, gender identity, and expression. The complexities surrounding social, legal and medical transitions for trans individuals were outlined. The importance of respecting pronouns and in ensuring a safe supportive healthcare environment were discussed. Aspects of hormone therapy and the inherent challenges faced by trans individuals in accessing healthcare were highlighted, along with the need for ongoing education for pharmacists in supporting the provision of empathetic and inclusive care. Practical aspects of implementing patient-centered care in pharmacy settings were discussed by the presenters. The importance of individually tailored treatment approaches was outlined in addition to signposting evidence-based resources for pharmacists.
