PSI Inspection Process
The PSI conducts various types of inspections to ensure compliance with pharmacy and medicine legislation as well as PSI guidance. These inspections aim to protect patients and the wider public by ensuring safe and effective pharmacy practice.
There are various types of inspections, including:
- New pharmacy opening inspections
- Routine pharmacy inspection
- Themed inspections
- Mystery shopper/specialist surveyor exercises

The PSI can also carry out inspections of any premises involved in the supply of non-prescription medicines online under Section 32 of the Irish Medicines Board Act 1995 and Section 67 of the Pharmacy Act 2007.
