Summary:  

In this webinar Dr Liz O'Sullivan provides insights into breastfeeding practices and policies in Ireland, stressing the importance of creating supportive environments for breastfeeding. The webinar provides an overview of the national breastfeeding policy and action plan and gives details of breastfeeding rates in Ireland (2022). An overview of recent research on breastfeeding-related care received by parents is discussed. The webinar also addresses the WHO code of marketing of breast milk substitutes, the ongoing development of national policies, and the critical role of support groups for working mothers. Liz outlines the need for more effective data collection and the establishment of standardised practices in addressing breastfeeding support. An insight into some national services related to breastfeeding is provided including the Human Milk Bank and information sources for pharmacists. The webinar highlights the importance of collaborative efforts in enhancing breastfeeding awareness and support services across Ireland.
