Summary:

This webinar emphasises the importance of the role pharmacists play in the early detection of lung cancer. The National Cancer Control Program (NCCP) in Ireland focuses on reducing cancer incidence, morbidity, and mortality, with a particular emphasis on prevention and early detection. Pharmacists play a crucial role in overseeing the care of cancer patients, influencing areas such as prevention, early detection, treatment, screening, promotion, survivorship, and palliative care.

In this webinar, they discuss the demographics of lung cancer, the subtle signs and symptoms to look out for, the barriers to early detection, and the role of pharmacists in addressing those barriers. The speakers also touch on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on referrals for suspected lung cancer cases and the need for pharmacists to listen to patients and help them seek medical help. Overall, pharmacists are ideally placed to improve early detection through their trust and interactions with patients.
