Summary:
The webinar provides a comprehensive overview of the HSE Addiction Services including how to access services, with a focus on pharmacy roles in addiction treatment. The speakers discuss different aspects of addiction services, including the role of pharmacists, drug treatment options for opioid dependence and opioid use disorders including methadone and buprenorphine, current trends in drug use, and harm reduction strategies like needle exchange programmes. The importance of pharmacist involvement in educating patients on overdose prevention is also outlined. The presentation also addresses challenges such as dealing with polydrug use, synthetic opioids, and the need for timely risk communication to address drug-related emergencies effectively.
The presenters provide an overview of pharmacy harm reduction roles. The training required for pharmacists to administer Naloxone was outlined, with signposting provided to the online training module on HSeLanD.
