Summary:  

In this webinar, the presenters discuss the role of the pharmacist in providing breastfeeding support in pharmacy practice. The webinar addresses the facilitators and barriers to providing support in practice, also presenting information on supportive resources for pharmacists and healthcare professionals. The important role of all members of the healthcare team, interprofessional collaboration - including effective communication to address challenges - is highlighted. Ongoing pharmacy-relevant research in the area of supporting breastfeeding in Ireland is also presented.    

The presenters signpost available resources for use by pharmacists in addition to the HSE Competency Framework for breastfeeding support. The importance of tailoring support to individual mothers’ needs, to create a supportive environment for breastfeeding mothers is emphasised.
