WELCOME TO THE IRISH INSTITUTE OF PHARMACY (THE "INSTITUTE")

As a pharmacist you require knowledge, skills and confidence to meet patients' needs and to keep up with the ever-widening scope of modern practice. In recognition of this the Institute was established with two core roles:

  • The development and delivery of a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) system for pharmacists in Ireland
  • The development of the practice of pharmacy in line with international best practice and evolving healthcare needs

WHAT WILL THE INSTITUTE DO FOR ME?

The Institute will provide support to you in your continuing professional development, facilitate peer support between pharmacists and help you enhance your practice.

WHAT WILL THE INSTITUTE DO FOR THE PROFESSION?

The Institute will work on behalf of our profession to help advance the practice of pharmacy, to build upon its position at the forefront of healthcare delivery and to develop closer links with other healthcare professionals.

This is made possible by having a quality assured CPD system in place which assures the competence of the profession in order to achieve consistent standards of service for all patients.

WHAT WILL THE INSTITUTE DO FOR PATIENTS, THE HEALTH SERVICE AND THE WIDER PUBLIC?

The focus of the Institute is on improving patient outcomes and patient safety.

The Institute ensures that patients' needs are the focus of developing practice.  The development of the profession will facilitate more accessible, cost-effective and integrated delivery of healthcare and will ensure that patients' needs are met in the local environment in a more timely manner.

Specialised and advanced services will become increasingly through pharmacy and the Institute will help to ensure emerging needs of the health system and the wider public are addressed.
