Multidisciplinary Masterclass: Managing Delirium in Palliative Care

The need for knowledge, support and realistic goals

Key Speaker - Dr Peter Lawlor is a physician in the Bruyère Palliative Care Unit, Ottawa and is an Associate Professor in the Division of Palliative Care and Dept of Medicine, University of Ottawa. His research interests, on which he has published and lectured extensively, include delirium, pain assessment and opioid side-effects.

Other speakers include

  • Professor Jane Phillips RN PhD, Director, Centre for Cardiovascular and Chronic Care, Professor of Nursing (Palliative Care), Faculty of Health, University of Technology Sydney, Australia
  • Professor Meera Agar, Professor of Palliative Medicine, Faculty of Health, Centre for Cardiovascular and Chronic Care, University of Technology Sydney and Conjoint Associate Professor University of NSW
  • Ms Annmarie Hosie currently a PhD candidate within the School of Nursing, University of Notre Dame Australia, Sydney.  Experienced registered nurse with expertise in palliative and aged care.
  • Dr Shirley Bush,  Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine (Division of Palliative Care) at the University of Ottawa, Clinical Scientist at the Bruyère Research Institute and a palliative care physician at Bruyère Continuing Care

Objectives for the Masterclass include:

  • Developing participant’s understanding of the importance and impact of delirium
  • Enabling participants to develop a strategic prevention, assessment and management approach to delirium using an inter-professional team framework, across various settings of care
  • Promoting improved inter-professional communication regarding delirium
  • Encouraging participants to appreciate the role of the inter-professional team in supporting and educating the family of the patient with delirium

Who Should Attend:  Pharmacists, nurses, allied health and social care professionals, doctors, educators, clinical managers and clinical researchers working in all healthcare settings.
