Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Training

Why do I need to know about CPR training?

Following a recent change to legislation, ( SI 449 of 2015 ), Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training is mandatory for all pharmacists wishing to supply and administer certain medicines to both adults and children in an emergency situation, as well as specific vaccines.  To assist pharmacists who wish to source appropriate training courses, which meet the requirements, information has been provided below.

Which CPR course should I do?
Please note only the following CPR courses have been identified by the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland (PSI – the Pharmacy Regulator) as being suitable to meet pharmacists’ training requirements in line with SI 449/2015:
  • Cardiac First Response Community Level (PHECC)
  • Heartsaver® CPR AED, AHA

Further information on PSI approved CPR standards can be found on the PSI website .

How do I source an appropriate CPR course?

In order to support pharmacists in identifying suitable training courses, the IIOP has provided links to the following websites, which list a number of CPR training providers nationally.

Please note that not all the providers listed on these websites will provide training in Cardiac First Response Community Level (PHECC) or Heartsaver CPR AED, AHA; so it is important to confirm with the relevant provider at the time of booking that they do indeed provide the correct course.

Upcoming CPR Courses   (If you have a CPR course you'd like to list, please click here ).

So that pharmacists can more easily access an appropriate CPR training course, the IIOP has invited course providers to list suitable upcoming CPR courses which will be taking place around Ireland over the next 6 months.
